OLATHE, Kan. - On a weekend designed to honor the Seniors, Freshman
Joshuan Sandoval hit a homer in each game as MNU took 3 of 4 vs. Baker. In Game 1, back-to-back homers from
Jacob Jenkins and
Joshuan Sandoval turned a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead in the 3rd inning. MNU scored 2 more in the inning on a
Juwan Padro single, and the Pioneers led 5-1.
Jacob Jenkins' 2-run single in the 4th made it 7-1, and MNU held on to win 9-3.
Game 1 Turning Point
Jacob Jenkins' 2-run homer gave MNU a lead they would not relinquish.
Game 1 Individual Leaders
Jacob Sylvester struck out 4 in a complete game victory. And
Jacob Jenkins (3-4, R, HR, 4 RBI),
Joshuan Sandoval (1-3, R, HR, RBI),
Josh Compton (2-3, R, 2B),
Juwan Padro (1-2, 2 RBI, BB), and
Cooper Curran (2-3, 2 R, SB) led the offense.
In Game 2, Baker led 3-1 in the 5th inning before weather forced the conclusion to Saturday morning. In the bottom of the 6th,
Jacob Jenkins led off with a bunt and scored on a
Joshuan Sandoval single. A double from
JP Rousseau put the tying run at 3rd with no outs, but a strikeout, walk, and double play ended the threat. In the bottom of the 7th with 2 outs and nobody on, Baker couldn't handle the 3rd out and the game was extended.
Jacob Jenkins singled to move the tying run to 2nd, and
Joshuan Sandoval crushed a 3-run walkoff homer to win 5-3.
Game 2 Turning Point
Baker's error opened the door for Sandoval's heroics.
Game 2 Individual Leaders
Lenzie Foley struck out 5 in 2 innings of relief for the victory. And
Jacob Jenkins (2-3, 2 R, BB) and
Joshuan Sandoval (2-3, R, HR, 4 RBI, BB) had 2 hits apiece.
In Game 3,
Joshuan Sandoval struck again with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 4th to give MNU a 2-0 lead. Baker answered with a run in the top of the 5th, then took the lead with a 2-out 2-run single in the top of the 6th. MNU threatened in the 7th but couldn't tie the game and Baker won 3-2.
Game 3 Turning Point
Baker's 2-out 2-run single in the top of the 6th was the game winner.
Game 3 Individual Leaders
Austin Conour struck out 5 in the complete game loss. And
Carlos Reyes (2-4),
Joshuan Sandoval (1-3, R, HR, 2 RBI), and
Juwan Padro (2-2, BB, SB) led the offense.
In Game 4, MNU rallied for 3 in the bottom of the 1st, then extended to a 4-0 lead on a
Sam Parrish 2-out RBI double in the 4th. Baker scored in the top of the 5th, but
Joshuan Sandoval's 4th homer of the series put MNU back up by 4 in the bottom of the inning. Baker's solo homer in the bottom of the 6th made it 5-2, and the Wildcats threatened against closer
Austyn Gooch in the 7th. With 1 out, a walk and 3 straight singles plated 2 runs and saw runners and 2nd and 3rd. But Gooch escaped with a groundout to 3rd and a strikeout to close out the 5-4 win.
Game 4 Turning Point
Joshuan Sandoval's solo homer in the bottom of the 5th proved to be the difference.
Game 4 Individual Leaders
Easten Garrett struck out 4 in 5.1 innings for the win.
Austyn Gooch pitched 1.2 innings of relief for the save. And
Sam Parrish (2-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI),
Joshuan Sandoval (1-2, R, HR, RBI, BB),
JP Rousseau (2-3, R),
Josh Compton (2-3, RBI), and
Cooper Curran (2-3) had big games at the plate.
