PERU, Neb. - MNU won a wild first game but dropped the second in a road split at Peru State on Tuesday. In Game 1, MNU built a 4-0 lead after 3 offensive innings. Peru got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd, then rallied for 6 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the 4th to take a 7-4 lead. After a quick top of the 5th, Peru loaded the bases with no outs and had a 2-0 count on the batter. But reliever
Connor Esparza came back to strike out the hitter and escape the jam with just 1 run scoring. In the top of the 6th, MNU took advantage of 2 Bobcat errors and used a
Josh Compton 2-out 2-run double to tie the game. In the top of the 7th, MNU blew the game open. The Pioneers scored 7 times on 5 hits to put the game out of reach. Peru scored a run with 2 outs, but
Lenzie Foley preserved the victory.

Peru was poised to break the game open in the bottom of the 5th but managed just 1 run. MNU then tied the game in the 6th.
