Pioneers Split at Evangel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - MNU split a 4-game series at Evangel over the weekend. In Game 1, Evangel built a 4-0 lead before MNU rallied for 3 in the top of the 5th. But the Crusaders exploded for 8 in the bottom of the inning to put the game away in a 12-4 final.

Carlos Reyes (2-4, 2 RBI) had 2 hits.

In Game 2, the teams were tied at 5 in extra innings when MNU pushed 2 runs across to take the lead. Evangel walked twice in the bottom of the inning but Austyn Gooch closed the door for a 2-run victory.

Jordan Dailey struck out 9 in a 7 inning no decision. Austyn Gooch picked up the victory with 2 innings of 1-hit relief. And Carlos Reyes (2-4, R, RBI, BB, SF), and Sam Parrish (1-3, R, 2B, 2 BB, Sac) led the offense.

In Game 3, MNU built a 3-0 lead highlighted by a Joshuan Sandoval homer, but Evangel came back late. A run in the 6th drew them closer, and with 2 outs and nobody on in the 7th, Evangel reached on an error and a walk to keep the game alive. A game-tying 2-run double was followed by a walkoff single, and Evangel stole Game 3.

Austin Conour struck out 5 in 6 innings in a no decision. And Carlos Reyes (1-2, RBI, SF), Joshuan Sandoval (1-3, R, HR, RBI), and Lenzie Foley (1-3, R, SB) led the offense.

In Game 4, MNU exploded for 17 runs in support of starter Easten Garrett, who twirled a complete game 5-hitter to salvage a 4-game split. The Pioneers scored in all but 1 inning en route to their highest run total of the season.

Easten Garrett earned his first win with a complete game 5-hitter. And Carlos Reyes (2-3, 3 R, RBI, BB, 2 SB), Sam Parrish (2-5, R, 2B, 4 RBI), Jacob Jenkins (1-2, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, HBP), Joshuan Sandoval (2-4, R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI), Thomas Elms (1-1, 3 R, 4 SB), and Cooper Curran (3-5, 3 R, RBI) had big games at the plate.
