SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Pioneers swept a pair of 1-run games at Evangel on Wednesday. In Game 1, MNU scored twice in the top of the 3rd to take the lead, but Evangel rallied for 4 in the bottom of the inning. In the top of the 4th with 2 outs and nobody on,
Taylor Creason and
Christina Gochenour reached base, and
Macie Jones' sun-aided double brought them home to tie the game.
Shelby Frans and
Megan Anthony drove in runs to extend the lead to 6-4. Evangel tied it again in the bottom of the 6th, and the game stayed tied into the 10th.
Emma Gordon's flyout moved pinch runner
Karlie Pepper to 3rd to start the international tie-breaker inning, and
Kaitlyn Leffle's sacrifice fly put MNU in front. In the bottom of the 10th,
Emily Robinson struck out the last two Crusaders with the tying run at third to preserve the win.
Game 1 Turning Point
MNU converted the tie-break in the top of the 10th.
Game 1 Individual Leaders
Emily Robinson struck out 5 in 3.2 innings of hitless relief for the win while going 1-3 with a run, and RBI, and 2 walks at the plate. And
Macie Jones (2-5, R, 2 2B, 2 RBI),
Shelby Frans (1-3, R, RBI, BB, HBP, 2 SB), and
Megan Anthony (2-4, RBI, BB) led the offense.
In Game 2,
Emily Robinson's 2-run double put MNU in front in the top of the 3rd, but Evangel tied it in the bottom of the inning. The Crusaders added a run in the bottom of the 5th to take a 3-2 lead, but MNU rallied again with 2 outs in the 6th.
Emma Gordon and
Tessa Ward singled and were in scoring position when
Macie Jones doubled them home to give MNU a 4-3 lead. Robinson pitched out of the trouble in the 6th and 7th, and MNU completed the sweep.

Macie Jones' 2-run double gave MNU the lead in the 6th.

Emily Robinson struck out 6 in her second win of the day to go along with a 2-run double. And
Macie Jones (2-2, R, 2 2B, 2 RBI, BB, HBP) and
Emma Gordon (2-2, R, HBP) were perfect at the plate.
