Pioneers Walk Off Game 2 to Earn Split vs. Baker

OLATHE, Kan. - The Pioneers dropped Game 1 but won a wild Game 2 vs. Baker on Saturday. In Game 1, Baker scored 2 in the 1st and 2 in the 3rd to take a 4-0 lead. MNU made a game of it when an error led to 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th, but the Wildcats extended the lead with 2 more in the 6th. Christina Gochenour's solo shot gave MNU a run in the 7th, but Baker held on to win 7-4.

Baker's 4 early runs put MNU in a big hole.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Megan Anthony (1-3, SB), Taylor Creason (2-3, R), and Christina Gochenour (1-3, 2 R, HR, RBI) collected MNU's 4 hits.

In Game 2, the teams traded punches with multiple multi-run innings. Baker led 4-0 after a 3-run 2nd, but the Pioneers answered with three 2-out runs with RBIs from Shelby Frans and Gochenour. MNU put up 2 more in the 3rd to take the lead then extended with 2 more in the 5th. Baker responded with 2 in the 6th then tied it with 2 outs in the 7th to send the game to extras. In the top of the 9th Baker took the lead with a sacrifice fly, but Macie Jones led off the bottom of the 9th with a solo homer to tie it again. In the top of the 10th with the international tie-breaker, Baker scored their runner to take the lead, but MNU answered immediately in the bottom of the 10th. Tessa Ward led off with a single to move runner Creason to 3rd, then a wild throw tied the game and set up MNU with runners in scoring position with no outs. Kaitlyn Leffle's single to left ended the game and salvaged the split.

Macie Jones solo homer sent the game to the 10th.
