Viking Second Half Comeback Downs MNU

The Basics
Score: MNU 24 - Grand View 38
Record: MNU (3-3), GVU (5-1)
Location: ODAC - Olathe, Kan.

OLATHE, Kan. - MNU led #7 Grand View 24-10 at halftime but the Vikings turned the tables to win 38-24 on Saturday. After a scoreless first quarter, Grand View started the second with a field goal to take the lead. Cristian Casillas hit a 23-yard field goal to tie the game, and MNU took the lead with a 36-yard touchdown run from Kobe Hardin. After forcing a 3-and-out, the Pioneers scored again when Trey Cooper found Jordan Samson for a 19-yard strike for a 17-3 lead. Grand View answered with a 75-yard touchdown drive, but the Pioneers extended the lead with an 8-play 70-yard touchdown drive to take a 24-10 lead into halftime.

The Vikings came out strong in the 3rd quarter and scored touchdowns on each of their first three possessions to take a 31-24 lead. Another quick score after an interception in the 4th quarter make it 38-24, and that's how the game ended.

"I felt we played really well in the first half in all three phases of the game," said Coach Willmer. "We moved the ball well on offense and the defense did a good job of limiting Grand View to only 10 points in the first half and slowing down their passing attack. We did not respond well to start the third quarter and struggled to stop the run game and had some crucial penalties on that let Grand View back in the game. This team fought hard but we must become a better four-quarter team and fix some of the mistakes we made."

Turning Point
Grand View scored on their first three possessions of the second half to take the lead.
