McPHERSON, Kan. - The MNU Men's Soccer team got the season started right Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over McPherson College. This was the first game for both teams. Both teams were coming off of very successful seasons in 2016. The road test for the #8 Pioneers proved to be a success.
Felipe Abreu got the Pioneers on the board first with a shot just outside the box. He was assisted by Matias Cabello. The Bulldogs tied the game with a penalty kick a short time later. MNU response was good. Raimundo Cabello (Mumo) made his college debut one to remember. Just 23 seconds after subbing in, he scored to put the Pioneers ahead 2-1. He was assisted by fellow freshman, Kevin Myftiu. Just minutes later Mumo had his brace. This time from a Javier Beltran assist. Halftime arrived with the Pioneers up 3-1.
The second half was very similar to the first. MNU got on the board early to put the game out of reach. Tanner Hunjak took another assist from Beltran and tapped in after beating the goalkeeper from short range. MNU managed the remainder of the game and both teams utilized quite a few players as the game drew to a close.
