Pioneers Take 3 of 4 from Evangel

OLATHE, Kan. - The Pioneers dominated Game 1 then played 3 close games in a weekend series win over Evangel. In Game 1, Matt Terrones allowed just 2 hits in 6 innings with 6 strikeouts while the Pioneers offense exploded for 11 runs. Still a close game in the 4th, MNU rallied for 7 runs to turn a 2-1 lead into a comfortable 8-run cushion.

Game 1 Turning Point
A dropped foul popup in the bottom of the 4th turned a close game into a blowout after 3 more hits and 7 runs.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Terrones earned his 4th victory, and Jason Jones (2-3, 2 R, 2B, BB), Jacob Jenkins (2-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, sac), Robert Berning (4-4, 3 RBI), and Kelvin Perez (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI) had multi-hit games.

In Game 2, Evangel scored twice in the top of the 1st, and MNU was held scoreless until the bottom of the 4th. With 2 outs and runners on the corners, Isaac Geisinger's double into the left field corner tied the game. In the top of the 7th, a single, walk, a double steal, and a wild throw led to 2 runs and the Crusaders held on to a 4-2 victory.

Game 2 Turning Point
The Evangel rally in the 7th won the game.

Game 2 Individual Leaders
Jordan Dailey struck out 8 in 6.1 innings in the loss, and Isaac Geisinger (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI) drove in MNU's runs.

In Game 3, both teams struggled to score and Evangel led 1-0 in the 5th. Isaac Geisinger's 2-out RBI single tied the game, but Evangel scored on a sac fly in the 6th. In the bottom of the 6th with 2 outs and nobody on, Robert Berning walked and courtesy runner Sam Parrish scored on a Chase Robinson bloop double to tie the game. In the bottom of the 7th with 2 on and 2 out, Jacob Jenkins delivered a walk-off double to deep right-center to win the game. 

Game 3 Turning Point
All 3 MNU runs came from 2-out RBIs.

Game 3 Individual Leaders
Phil Graham struck out 6 in 6 innings. Joel Lopez pitched a scoreless 7th for the win in relief. And Jacob Jenkins (1-4, 2B, RBI), Chase Robinson (1-2, 2B, RBI, BB), and Isaac Geisinger (2-3, RBI) had MNU's RBIs.

In Game 4, Evangel loaded the bases with 1 out in the top of the 1st and scored on an HBP and a sac fly. MNU tied it with a 2-out 2-run single from Lenzie Foley in the 2nd. And a Nelson Santiago 2-out RBI double put MNU up 3-2 in the 3rd. The game stayed 3-2 into the 6th when Evangel loaded the bases with 2 outs. Joel Lopez struck out the pinch hitter looking on a full count, then completed the 4-out save with a scoreless 7th.

Game 4 Turning Point
Nelson Santiago's 2-out RBI double was the difference.

Game 4 Individual Leaders
Emilio Gonzales struck out 5 in 5.1 innings for the win. Joel Lopez struck out 3 in a 4-out save. And Nelson Santiago (2-3, 2B, RBI) and Lenzie Foley (1-1, 2 RBI, BB) led the offense.
