The Pioneers were in control with a 2-goal lead, but Concordia made a late comeback to earn a draw on Saturday. In the 31st minute,
Sarah Schmidt's throw-in near the corner found
Taryn McClendon in the box. McClendon turned and fired from the side to put MNU up 1-0. In the 66th minute, the Pioneers executed a perfect counter and McClendon found a wide-open Illyssa Ruzan who tapped home the second goal. The match seemed well in hand, but Concordia scored a fluky goal in the 81st minute, and the new energy changed the game. Just two minutes later, the Bulldogs scored on a corner kick to tie the game. Neither team could convert in the overtimes, and MNU settled for a draw.
MNU is 1-0-1. The next match is Tuesday at Columbia at 4:30.
