Pioneers Swept at Home

The Pioneers were shut out in Game 1, and lost Game 2 in extra innings vs. Avila on Friday. In Game 1, the Pioneers didn't manage a hit until the fifth inning, and Avila got single runs in the first, second, and fifth innings to take a 3-0 lead. MNU couldn't get anything going and lost by that score. Maddie Johnson (1-2, HBP), Brittany Jacobsen (1-2, BB), Madison McKay (1-3), and Jess Peacock (1-2) recorded MNU's 4 hits.

In Game 2, MNU got on the board in the first inning when Alexis Pacheco and Jess Peacock singled and Avila threw the ball away to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. In the top of the third, Avila loaded the bases with no outs, but Megan Deiter struck out the next 3 batters. The Pioneers seemed to take control with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-0 lead, highlighted by back-to-back RBI doubles from Brittany Jacobsen and Natalie Clark. Avila scored 2 unearned runs in the top of the fifth to halve the lead, and scored 2 more in the sixth to tie the game. The game went to extra innings, and Avila rallied with 2 outs to score a run. MNU got 2 baserunners in the bottom of the eighth but couldn't cash them in, and Avila won 5-4. Alexis Pacheco (3-4, 2 R, BB, SB), Maddie Johnson (2-5, R, SB), Brittany Jacobsen (1-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI), Natalie Clark (1-3, 2B, RBI, BB), and Shelby Frans (1-2, 2B, 2 BB) led the offense.

MNU is 13-11 (5-7 Heart). The next double header is Wednesday at Graceland (8-16, 1-11) at 2:00.
