Pioneers Sweep Evangel

MNU ended a 4-game skid with a double header sweep at Evangel on Wednesday. In Game 1, the Pioneers scored 1 in the top of the first but Evangel answered with 2 in the bottom and 2 more in the third to take a 4-1 lead. In the top of the sixth, the Pioneers got closer when Lydia Reyes' single brought home 2. And in the top of the seventh, MNU loaded the bases with a Kinsey Kiser single followed by an Alexis Pacheco single and a Jess Peacock walk. Macie Jones gave MNU the lead with a 2-run double, and Reyes followed with a 3-run homer to open up an 8-4 lead. Clarisa Cortez pitched the final 4 innings of the game for the win. And Jess Peacock (2-2, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB), Macie Jones (2-3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB), and Lydie Reyes (2-4, R, HR, 5 RBI) had 2 hits apiece.

In Game 2, Megan Deiter struck out 11 and allowed just 5 hits and 1 run. In the top of the fourth with MNU trailing 1-0, Maddie Johnson's 2-out 2-run single gave the Pioneers the lead. In the sixth, the Pioneers extended the lead with RBIs from Lydia Reyes and Natalie Clark. Jess Peacock's RBI single added 1 more in the seventh, and the Pioneers won 5-1. It was Deiter's ninth win of the season. And Jess Peacock (1-3, R, RBI, BB), Macie Jones (2-4, 2 R, 2B), Lydia Reyes (1-3, R, RBI), Maddie Johnson (1-3, RBI) led the offense.

MNU ends the conference schedule 12-10 (22-16 overall). The final double header is Senior Day at home vs. Sterling (23-20) on Saturday at 1:00. The conference tournament starts next Thursday in Overland Park.
