Pioneers Swept by Park

The Pioneers fell victim to a couple of big innings in a non-conference double sweep at the hands of Park on Thursday. In Game 1, the Pirates scored 1 in the first and rallied for 4 in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Natalie Clark homered in the fourth to get MNU on the board, but Park kept extending and led 12-1 after a big top of the fifth. Lydia Reyes nailed a 2-run homer in the bottom of the inning, but the Pirates won 12-3 via the mercy rule. Lydia Reyes (2-2, R, HR, 2 RBI, HBP) and Natalie Clark (1-2, R, HR, RBI) drove in MNU's 3 runs.

In Game 2, Park scored 1 in the top of the second but the Pioneers answered in the bottom when Felisha Vogelaar singled and Kimberly Montoya tripled to tie it. Alexis Pacheco knocked in Montoya to give MNU a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the third, Natalie Clark's 2-out RBI double extended the lead to 3-1. A homer got Park a run closer in the fourth, then exploded in the top of the fifth. The Pirates put up 12 runs on 7 hits and 5 walks to put the game away, and MNU fell 14-3. Lydia Reyes (2-3, R), Natalie Clark (1-2, 2B, RBI), and Kimberly Montoya (1-2, R, 3B, RBI) led the offense.

MNU is 20-14 (10-8 Heart). The next double header is Saturday at #21 Central Methodist (29-13, 11-3) at 1:00.
