Pioneers Sweep Statesmen

The Pioneers dominated Game 1 before winning Game 2 in extra innings in a double header sweep of William Penn on Wednesday. The scores were 8-0 and 3-2. In Game 1, MNU scored 3 runs in the first inning with 2 outs. Alexis Pacheco led off with a single and scored 2 outs later on a Macie Jones double. Brittany Jacobsen followed with a double and Maddie Johnson added a triple to put MNU up 3-0. More 2-out RBIs came in the second inning when Jess Peacock knocked in 2 to put MNU up 5-0. In the bottom of the fourth with 2 outs, Korrissa Aguilar singled and Peacock and Macie Jones followed with doubles to make it 7-0. Tessa Ward's pinch hit RBI double in the bottom of the fifth made it 8-0 and ended the game via the mercy rule. Taylor Pearcy allowed just 3 hits in 5 innings for the victory. And Alexis Pacheco (2-3, 2 R, 2B), Korrissa Aguilar (2-3, 2 R, SB), Jess Peacock (2-3, R, 2B, 3 RBI), and Macie Jones (3-3, R, 3 2B, 2 RBI) had multi-hit games.

In Game 2, William Penn scored a run in the top of the first, but the Pioneers answered with 2 in the bottom of the inning. In the top of the fifth the Statesmen loaded the bases with 1 out, and a hit batsmen tied the game. Clarisa Cortez escaped further damage, and the game remained tied into the eighth. Lydia Reyes singled to open the inning, and pinch runner Kinsey Kiser scored on an error 1 out later to give MNU the victory. Cortez struck out 5 in 6 innings of relief for the win. And Alexis Pacheco (1-3, R, Sac), Korrissa Aguilar (2-4, R, 2B), Macie Jones (1-2, BB), and Lydia Reyes (1-1) recorded MNU's 5 hits.

MNU is 20-12 (10-8 Heart). The next double header is Thursday at home vs. Park (25-13) at 4:00.
