MNU and Missouri Valley split a dramatic double header on Saturday as both games were decided in the tenth inning. Both finals were 3-2. In Game 1, MNU scored single runs
Alexis Pacheco reached on a hit and
Lydia Reyes drove her home in each of the first and third innings. The 2-0 score held until the top of the seventh. A walk and an infield hit put the tying runs on with no outs. A bunt, a passed ball, and a 2-out hit tied the game and sent it to extras. In the top of the tenth the International Tiebreak was put in place, and MNU escaped with no runs scoring. In the bottom of the tenth,
Macie Jones moved the runner to third with a bunt, and
Jess Peacock drove home the winning run with a sacrifice fly.
Megan Deiter struck out 12 in 8.2 innings.
Taylor Pearcy pitched 1.1 perfect innings of relief for the win. And
Alexis Pacheco (3-4, 2 R, 2B, BB, SB),
Lydia Reyes (1-4, 2 RBI, SF), and
Jess Peacock (3-4, RBI, SF) led the offense.
In Game 2, MNU got on the board when Pacheco walked and scored on a
Brittany Jacobsen double. Valley took the lead in the top of the sixth when a couple of infield singles came around to score. A 6-4-3 double play ended the threat, but the Pioneers still trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh with 2 outs and no one on.
Lydia Reyes reached on an error and
Kinsey Kiser pinch ran and stole second.
Alexis Pacheco tied it with a single, and the game again went into the tenth tied at 2. The Tiebreak was used again, and Valley converted to take a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the tenth, the Pioneers could not convert and MNU fell.
Taylor Pearcy pitched 5 shutout inning in a no-decision. And
Macie Jones (2-3, 2B, Sac) had 2 hits.
MNU is 18-12 (8-8 Heart). The next double header is Wednesday at home vs. William Penn (19-24, 6-8) at 4:00.
