Pioneers Sweep St. Mary

MNU walked off Game 1, and won the second game 1-0 in a non-conference sweep of St. Mary on Friday. In Game 1, Megan Deiter kept the Spires off the board for the first 5 innings while the Pioneers built a 2-0 lead. An error led to the first run, and Korrissa Aguilar drove in Shelby Frans for the second run in the fifth. In the top of the sixth, a single followed by a triple and an error tied the game, and Saint Mary took the lead with a solo homer to center. In the bottom of the sixth, Lydia Reyes' 2-out pinch hit RBI single scored Macie Jones to tie the game. In the bottom of the seventh, Brittany Jacobsen led off with a walk and Kinsey Kiser pinch ran. After consecutive wild pitches moved Kiser to third, Alexis Pacheco lined a single to left to win the game. Megan Deiter struck out 10 for a complete game victory. And Alexis Pacheco (3-4, RBI, SB), Korrissa Aguilar (1-2, RBI, Sac), and Lydia Reyes (1-1, RBI) drove in runs for MNU.

In Game 2, MNU didn't reach base until Natalie Clark led off the sixth inning with a single in a scoreless game. After a sacrifice bunt from Madison McKay, Kimberly Montoya drove home the only run of the game with a single. In the top of the seventh with 2 outs, a Saint Mary pinch hitter nearly tied the game with a drive off the very top of the fence, but the ball stayed in the yard and a groundout followed to end it. Taylor Pearcy struck out 3 in 5 innings of scoreless pitching. Clarisa Cortez allowed 1 hit in 2 innings of relief for the win. And Alexis Pacheco (1-3, SB), Natalie Clark (1-2), and Kimberly Montoya (1-2, RBI) had MNU's 3 hits.

MNU is 17-11 (7-7 Heart). The next double header is Saturday at home vs. Missouri Valley (11-23, 5-9) starting at 1:00.
