The Pioneers dropped a pair of double headers at Avila this weekend. The scores were 6-5, 3-2, 4-0, and 6-5. In Game 1, MNU took control with a 4-run top of the third. Four straight singles produced a run and loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly made it 2-0, a double scored a third run, and another sac fly made it 4-0. Avila answer with 1 in the bottom of the third, and a wild pitch in the fifth made it 4-2. The Pioneers scored in the top of the sixth to make it 5-2, but Avila rallied in the bottom of the sixth. A walk, a single, and an error loaded the bases with no outs. A walk scored a run, and a fielder's choice brought home another to make it 5-4. After a strikeout, Avila recorded a 2-out 2-run single to take the lead. MNU got a runner to second in the top of the seventh, but a lineout ended the threat and Avila won 6-5.
Jordan Eckley (3-4, R, RBI) and
Kelvin Perez (2-3, R, 2B) had multi-hit games.
In Game 2, the Eagles scored 2 unearned run in the first, but MNU tied it in the top of the fourth. The difference in the game came when Avila hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth, and MNU couldn't find another run and lost 3-2.
Blake Robberson allowed just 4 hits in the complete game loss. And
Logan Tills (1-3, R),
Jason Jones (1-3, R),
Christian Quinones (1-3, RBI), and
Kelvin Perez (1-3, 2B) had MNU's 4 hits.
In Game 3, the Pioneers were shut out for the first time all season. Avila scored 1 in the fourth, 2 in the fifth, and 1 in the sixth to win 4-0.
Robert Berning (2-3) had 2 hits in the loss.
In Game 4, MNU loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the first.
Nelson Santiago brought home 2 with a single and later scored on a Berning single to take a 3-0 lead.
Jason Jones had an RBI double in the second, but Avila scored 3 in the second and 2 in the third to take a 5-4 lead. The Eagles extended the lead with a run in the fifth, and the Pioneers couldn't recover. Two doubles in the top of the seventh put the tying run in scoring position, but he was stranded and the sweep was completed.
Jordan Eckley (1-2, 2 R, 2B, BB, HBP),
Jason Jones (3-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI), and
Nelson Santiago (1-4, R, 2 RBI) led the offense.
