Pioneers Will Host Title Game

Jasmine Webb scored a career-high 25 and the Pioneers withstood a 9-minute scoreless stretch in a 67-51 victory over Benedictine in the semifinals of the Heart Post-Season Tournament on Saturday. MNU came out hot and took a 14-5 lead over 4 minutes of play. After a Raven timeout, the game turned. After a free throw with 5 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter, MNU didn't score again until 6:30 remained in the 2nd. Benedictine built a 7-point lead during the drought, and the lead was 9 at halftime as the Pioneers managed a season-low 5 points in the 2nd.

MNU made the proper halftime adjustments and came out on fire. Jasmine Webb hit 2 buckets between 2 Megan Balcom 3s and a quick 10-0 run gave the Pioneers a lead. The Ravens battled back and carried a 2-point lead into the 4th quarter, but the Pioneers dominated the final period. MNU outscored Benedictine by 18 as the Ravens has as many turnovers as points. A 25-7 final period gave the Pioneers a 16-point victory.

Jasmine Webb was 8-11 from the field and 9-10 from the line for a career-high 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. Kyleesha Weston was a nightmare on defense, recording a career-high 8 steals as she shot 7-10 for a career-high 19 points with 3 assists. And Megan Balcom added 11 points.


2-seed MNU is 26-5 (19-3 Heart). 4-seed Baker upset 1-seed CMU so the Pioneers will host the Wildcats (24-7, 16-6) in the title game on Tuesday at 7:00.
