Pioneers Split vs. Peru State

MNU lost a close first game but blew out Peru State in the second game on Saturday. In Game 1, Peru State scored 2 runs on 3 hits in the top of the fourth to take the lead. Lydia Reyes homered to cut the deficit in half, but the Bobcats added another run in the top of the seventh. Two doubles in the bottom of the seventh scored a run and put another in scoring position, but MNU came up short to fall 3-2. Alexis Pacheco (3-4, 2 2B, RBI, SB) and Lydia Reyes (1-3, R, HR, RBI) led the offense.

In Game 2, MNU jumped out to a big lead quickly. With 2 outs and nobody on in the first, Kinsey Kiser, Lydia Reyes, Macie Jones, and Kimberly Montoya singled ahead of a Shelby Frans 3-run homer to give MNU a 5-0 lead. Alexis Pacheco homered to lead off the second, and Maddie Johnson hit a 2-run homer in the fourth to push the lead to 8-0. Macie Jones' RBI double accounted for the final score: 9-0 in 5 innings. Megan Deiter allowed just 1 hit and struck out 8 for her 6th win. And Alexis Pacheco (3-3, 2 R, HR, RBI), Maddie Johnson (1-2, R, HR, 2 RBI, Sac), Kinsey Kiser (2-3, R, 2B), Lydia Reyes (2-3, 2 R), Macie Jones (2-3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, SB), and Shelby Frans (1-2, R, HR, 3 RBI) led the offense.

MNU is 11-5 (4-2 Heart). The next double header is Wednesday at home vs. William Penn (9-12, 1-1) at 4:00.
