Pioneers Sweep Wildcats

The Pioneers swept a double header at Culver-Stockton on Friday by the scores of 6-1 and 4-2. In Game 1, Culver scored a run in the bottom of the first but didn't cross the plate again as Megan Deiter and Clarisa Cortez combined to strike out 12 and secure the win. MNU scored 1 in the second, 3 in the third, and 2 in the fifth as Lydia Reyes had a huge game. The junior DP had 2 doubles and a homer in the 6-1 victory. Maddie Johnson (2-3, 2 R, 2B, BB), Reyes (3-4, 2 R, 2 2B, HR, 3 RBI), and Macie Jones (2-3, 2 R, 2 2B, BB) had multi-hit games.

In Game 2, Alexis Pacheco drove in a run in the top of the second, but Culver tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the seventh, Natalie Clark cleared the bases with a 3-run double, and Clarisa Cortez pitched the final 3 innings for the 4-2 victory. Taylor Pearcy struck out 3 in 4 innings of a no decision. And Alexis Pacheco (3-4, R, 2B, RBI, 2 SB), Macie Jones (2-2, R, 2 BB), and Natalie Clark (1-4, 2B, 3 RBI) led the offense.

MNU is 10-4 (3-1 Heart). The next double header is Saturday at home vs. Peru State (6-18, 1-3) at 1:00.
