Pioneers Split at Baker

The Pioneers won the first game 3-1 at Baker, but lost Game 2 by the same score on Thursday. The first 6 Pioneers to come to the plate struck out swinging, but Megan Deiter didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning in the pitchers duel. MNU got on the board in the top of the fourth on Natalie Clark's 2-out RBI single, and an RBI groundout from Korrissa Aguilar scored Kinsey Kiser to give MNU a 2-0 lead. Baker got 1 back in the fifth with a solo homer, but Deiter escaped further damage with back-to-back strikeouts with runners in scoring position. Lydie Reyes homered in the sixth to give MNU a 3-1 lead, and Deiter struck out 4 of the final 6 batters to complete the victory.

Megan Deiter allowed 3 hits (all in the fifth inning) and struck out 14 for the win. And Lydia Reyes (1-3, R, HR, RBI), Natalie Clark (2-3, RBI), and Kimberly Montoya (2-3) led the offense.

In Game 2, Baker scored 2 in the first and MNU couldn't dig out of the hole. The Pioneers scored a run in the fifth, but Baker answered with 1 in the bottom of the inning. In the top of the seventh, MNU loaded the bases with 1 out, but a fielder's choice and a strikeout ended the threat and the Pioneers lost 3-1.

Alexis Pacheco (1-4, R, SB), Macie Jones (2-3, BB), Natalie Clark (1-3), Kimberly Montoya (1-2), and Kinsey Kiser (1-3) had MNU's 6 hits.

MNU is 8-4 (1-1 Heart). The next double header is Friday at Culver-Stockton (15-5, 2-0) at 2:00.
