Pioneers Split with Grand View

On a very windy afternoon, MNU split a couple of high-scoring contests with Grand View on Tuesday. In Game 1, a pair of solo homers from Jordan Eckley and Jason Jones put MNU up 2-0 in the first inning. Brandon Marrero made it 3-1 in the second with a 2-out RBI single, and Eckley scored after a triple in the third to put MNU up 4-1. In the top of the fifth, the Pioneers almost escaped a 2nd & 3rd no out situation with 2 strikeouts. But a walk, a single, and a grand slam put Grand View up 7-4. Marrero got one back with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning, but the Vikings exploded again with 6 in the sixth and 5 more in the seventh to pull away and win 18-5.

Jordan Eckley (4-4, 2 R, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI) hit for the cycle in the loss. And Brandon Marrero (2-3, R, HR, 2 RBI) had 2 hits.

In Game 2, MNU hit 6 homers and scored in every inning. Grand View scored 3 in the first and 4 in the third to tie the game at 7, but Robert Berning's solo homer in the bottom of the third gave MNU an 8-7 lead they would not relinquish. Berning blew the game open in the fourth with a grand slam, and Jason Jones capped the 7-run inning with a 2-run shot. Jones added a 2-run homer in the sixth, and Jeremie Gonzalez matched it one out later. Christian Quinones drilled a 2-out solo homer in the eighth, and MNU won 22-11. Blake Robberson struck out 6 in 4.2 innings of relief for the win. And every starter had at least 2 hits: Jordan Eckley (2-6, 2R, 2 2B), Logan Tills (5-5, 4 R, 2B, RBI, HBP), Jason Jones (4-6, 4 R, 2 HR, 6 RBI), Nelson Santiago (2-5, R, BB), Kelvin Perez (3-6, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI), Jeremie Gonzalez (3-5, 3 R, HR, 4 RBI, BB), Christian Quinones (4-6, 2 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI), Brandon Marrero (2-5, R, BB), and Robert Berning (2-5, 2 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI).

MNU is 18-4 (3-3 Heart). The next double header is Friday at Graceland (9-20, 3-3) at 1:00.
