Pioneers Advance to 7th Fab Four

NAIA Recap | MNU jumped out to a big lead and were hardly threatened in a 95-82 victory over Our Lady of the Lake in the quarterfinals on Saturday. The Pioneers reach the Fab 4 for the 3rd time in Division 1 ('09, '14) and the 7th time overall ('01, '06, '07, '08) by holding OLLU to 38% shooting. Jonas Page started the scoring with a 3-pointer, and the Pioneers never trailed. After 7 minutes of play, MNU led 22-6. The Saints were able to close to within 5 with 6 minutes left in the first half, but the Pioneers went on a 9-0 run to push the lead back to 14. Cale Brubaker's 3-pointer in the final minute gave MNU a 15-point lead into halftime.

In the second half, MNU built a 21-point lead after 10 minutes and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Jonas Page hit 6 threes for a game-high 24 points and 3 steals. Justin Randall shot 10-14 for 22 points and 4 blocks. Gabriel Jordan hit 8 free throws and had 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Jordan Whelan added 12 points off the bench. And Nick Syrie hauled in 8 rebounds and handed out 13 assists.

MNU is 28-8. The next game is Monday vs. #1 Georgetown (31-3) at 8:00 at Municipal Auditorium. The winner plays for the national title on Tuesday.
