Pioneers Sweep Webber

A huge comeback in Game 1 and a gem in Game 2 gave MNU a sweep at Webber International in Florida on Monday.

In Game 1, MNU led 2-1 in the 5th when Webber rallied. With a run already in, they hit a 2-run homer to take a 4-2 lead. With 2 outs and nobody on in the top of the seventh, the Pioneers wouldn't quit. Clarisa Cortez singled, Madison McKay singled, and Maddie Johnson followed with an RBI single. Kimberly Montoya was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Natalie Clark completed the comeback with a 2-run single on a full count to give the Pioneers a 5-4 lead. Clarisa Cortez finished the game, stranding a runner in scoring position, to get the complete game victory to go along with a 2-4 performance at the plate. And Brittany Jacobsen (2-4, RBI) and Natalie Clark (1-4, 2 RBI) led the offense.

In Game 2, Megan Deiter didn't allow a hit until the sixth inning, but the Webber pitcher kept MNU in check as well. Natalie Clark drilled a solo homer in the top of the fourth for the first hit on the game, and Deiter made it stand up. She struck out 12 and allowed just 2 hits for her 3rd win of the season, and Clark (1-2, R, HR, RBI) and Maddie Johnson (1-2, HBP) had MNU's 2 hits.

MNU is 6-0. The next double header is Tuesday at Warner (13-11) in Lake Wales at 1:00.
