MNU Sweeps St. Mary

The Pioneers are 4-0 after a road sweep of a double header at St. Mary on Tuesday. The scores were 5-3 and 7-3. MNU manufactured a run in the top of the first, and Megan Deiter dominated in the early innings. She struck out 6 of the first 9 batters as her teammates built a 4-0 lead. In the top of the second, Shelby Frans doubled home 2 and Alexis Pacheco singled home Frans for a 3-run inning. In the top of the sixth, Kinsey Kiser's 2-out RBI single made it 5-0, but USM rallied in the bottom of the inning. Three runs came across, and St. Mary loaded the bases with 2 outs in the seventh. Taylor Pearcy got the final out, and the Pioneers held on for the 5-3 victory.

Deiter struck out 8 for her second win of the season. Taylor Pearcy earned the save. And Alexis Pacheco (2-3, R, RBI, BB), Kinsey Kiser (1-3, RBI, Sac), Macie Jones (1-3, RBI, SF), and Shelby Frans (1-2, R, 2B, 2 RBI) drove in runs.

In Game 2, USM scored in the first, but the Pioneers answered in the second. Shelby Frans' second 2-out 2-run double of the day knocked in Tessa Ward and Kinsey Kiser, and MNU led 2-1. MNU extended the lead in the top of the fifth when Frans and Jenna Keen opened the inning with a single and double. After a popout and a walk, Maddie Johnson singled home 1 and Tessa Ward brought home another with a walk. USM rallied for 2 in the bottom of the inning, but the Pioneers put it away in the sixth. Alexis Pacheco's 2-out RBI single was followed by a 2-run single from Maddie Johnson, and MNU won 7-3.

Taylor Pearcy pitched the first 4 innings for the win. Clarisa Cortez finished the save for the save. And Korrissa Aguilar (0-1, 2 R, 3 BB), Tessa Ward (1-2, R, RBI, 2 BB), Kinsey Kiser (2-3, R, 2B), and Shelby Frans (2-2, R, 2B, 2 RBI, Sac) led the offense.

MNU is 4-0. The next double header is Tuesday at home vs. Tabor (4-9) at 3:00.
