Pioneers Sweep Day 2 in Texas

MNU scored 10 in the top of the first and didn't stop scoring in 13-5 and 19-6 victories at Wayland Baptist on Saturday. In the first game vs. WBU, the Pioneers exploded in the opening inning. With 1 out, MNU went double, homer, homer, single, double, error, single, single, single, double, and double before the next out was made. Before starter Brett Ebers took the mound, he led 10-0. WBU scored 2 in the second, but Kelvin Perez answered with a 2-run shot in the top of the third. Logan Tills hit his 3rd double in 4 innings to put MNU up 13-2, and the Pioneers took the game 13-5. Ebers struck out 5 in a complete game victory. And Logan Tills (5-5, 3 R, 3 2B, 3 RBI), Jason Jones (2-4, R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, BB), Nelson Santiago (2-5, R, HR, RBI), Kelvin Perez (3-4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB), and Lenzie Foley (3-5, 2 R, RBI) had multi-hit games.

The next game was against Houston-Victoria, who the Pioneers beat 21-1 on Friday. Another big first inning propelled MNU to a blowout. Kelvin Perez drilled a 3-run homer and Robert Berning added an RBI single to put the Pioneers up 4-0. The game was iced in the top of the third when Perez and Lenzie Foley homered and 5 runs came across. Brandon Marrero and Foley homered in the fourth to score 3 more, and Blake Robberson joined the party with a solo shot in the fifth. MNU added 4 in the seventh and won 19-6. Zach Stinnett pitched 6 innings for the victory. And Jordan Eckley (2-5, R, RBI), Logan Tills (2-3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, 3 BB), Nelson Santiago (3-5, 2 R, RBI), Kelvin Perez (2-3, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI), Blake Robberson (2-2, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI), Jeremie Gonzalez (3-4, 3 R, SB), Brandon Marrero (1-3, R, HR, 2 RBI), and Lenzie Foley (2-3, 3 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI, BB, SB) led the offense.

During the weekend, Logan Tills reached base 15 consecutive times. He went
10-11 with 9 runs, 5 doubles, 8 RBIs, 5 walks, and 2 HBPs over the 4 games. He hit .909 with a .944 OBP and 2.308 OPS.

MNU is 10-1. The next series is the home opener: a 4-game set vs. Grace (0-4) with double headers on Friday and Saturday at noon each day.
