Pioneers Denied at Evangel

Evangel spoiled the party with an 83-59 victory over the Pioneers in Springfield on Wednesday. With MNU 1 win from a conference title and Rocky Lamar's 700th victory, the Pioneers struggled early and could never find rhythm. The loss snapped MNU's 13-game win streak and created a 3-way tie atop the Heart with 1 game to play.

MNU tried to make a game of it early in the second half. Trailing by 17, the Pioneers went on a 12-4 run to cut the deficit to single digits. But Evangel answered with a 10-2 run to put it out of reach.

MNU shot 42% for the game and went 0-10 from beyond the arc. The difference in the game was the offensive glass, where Evangel out-rebounded MNU 16-7. Nick Syrie (13), Jonas Page (10), and Jordan Whelan (10) reached double figures.

MNU is 22-7 (16-5). The next game is Senior Day at home vs. Grand View (14-14, 8-13) at 4:00. A victory would earn MNU a conference title and Rocky Lamar's 700th career victory.
