Pioneers Complete Weekend Sweep at SAGU

The Pioneers are off to their best start in program history after a double header sweep at SAGU (TX) on Saturday. The scores were 19-1 and 9-3 as MNU moves to 7-0.

In Game 1, MNU scored multiple runs in the first 4 innings to take a 13-1 lead. After being held scoreless in the fifth, the Pioneers put up 4 in the sixth and 2 more in the seventh to win by 18. Zach Stinnett allowed a single run in the second and struck out 8 in 5 innings for the victory. And Christian Quinones (2-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI, BB), Jordan Eckley (2-2, 3 R, 2B, 3 RBI, BB, SB, HBP, SF), Nelson Santiago (2-4, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB, SB), and Jeremie Gonzalez (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, SB) had multi-hit games.

In Game 2, SAGU jumped ahead with a 2-run first inning, but MNU tied it in the 3rd on a wild pitch and a bases loaded walk. The Pioneers broke it open in the fourth when Lenzie Foley led off with a triple and scored on a groundout ahead of a Logan Tills sacrifice fly. Nelson Santiago drilled a 2-out 2-run homer, and the Pioneers led 6-2. SAGU scored an unearned run in the fourth, but Jason Jones iced it with a 2-run single in the sixth to complete a 3-run inning. Blake Robberson and Lenzie Foley each pitched a scoreless inning in relief of starter Brett Ebers, who struck out 9 in 5 innings for the win. And Nelson Santiago (1-2, R, HR, 2 RBI, 2 HBP) and Jason Jones (1-3, 3 RBI, BB) drove in 5 in the 9-3 victory.

MNU is 7-0. The next series is a 4-game set at Wayland Baptist in Texas next weekend. MNU will face WBU (13-3) and Houston-Victoria (1-8) in split double headers.
