Graham's No-Hitter Highlights Sweep at SAGU

Phil Graham tossed a no-hitter in Game 1 of a double header sweep at Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Friday. The junior pre-season All-American allowed just 2 base runners and faced the minimum while striking out 10 as MNU won 1-0. The Pioneers scored in the top of the sixth when SAGU committed 2 errors and a passed ball to bring home Lenzie Foley, and Graham did the rest.

Phil Graham threw just 82 pitches in 7 innings, struck out 10, walked 1, and hit 1. The first base runner was erased on a double play in the first inning, and the second was caught stealing to end the fifth. Logan Tills (1-3), Jason Jones (1-3), Jeremie Gonzalez (1-3), and Christian Quinones (1-3) recorded the only hits of the game, all singles.

In Game 2, Emilio Gonzales also recorded a complete game shutout while striking out 8. Kelvin Perez gave MNU a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the top of the second, and the Pioneers added on in the third. Jordan Eckley doubled with one out, stole 3rd, and scored on an error ahead of a Jason Jones solo homer to put MNU up 3-0. Gonzales worked out of trouble in the fifth and sixth, and the Pioneers tacked on a run with a Foley sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the seventh, SAGU loaded the bases with no outs to bring the tying run to the plate. But a line drive double play and a strikeout ended the threat and completed the sweep.

Gonzales is 2-0 after the shutout. And Jason Jones (2-3, R, HR, RBI, BB, 2 SB) and Kelvin Perez (2-3, R, HR, RBI) had 2 hits apiece.

MNU is 5-0. The teams play another double header on Saturday starting at 11:00.
