Balcom Puts Up 42 in Blowout

Megan Balcom hit 8 threes and shot 70% for a career-high 42 points in MNU's 103-52 victory over Graceland on Saturday. It was the second highest point total in program history (Bethany Rexroth had 43 in February of 2011) and the second highest total in the NAIA this season (43). The senior made her first 6 shots in a 17-point 1st quarter, then hit 3 threes and a duece in an 11-point 2nd quarter. The 28-point first half is the most by an MNU basketball player since Rustin Dowd had 29 at Benedictine in December of 2010. Balcom scored 7 in the 3rd as MNU built a 40-point lead, and she capped off the huge night with 7 in the 4th. The outcome of the game was never in doubt as MNU started on a 17-2 run and finished with a season-high 103 points.

Balcom led the way with 42 points on 16-23 shooting, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Jasmine Webb shot 7-11 for 16 points and 6 rebounds. Nathalie Felipe added 13 points off the bench. And Kyleesha Weston had 11 points, 7 assists, 6 steals, and 2 blocks.

MNU is 21-4 (16-2 Heart). The next game is Wednesday at home vs. Heart leader Central Methodist (22-2, 17-1) at 5:30. If MNU wins, the teams will be tied atop the conference with 3 to play.
