The MNU Men's Soccer team completed yet another dominate performance this afternoon at Pioneer Field. Evangel University was the opponent this time and the final score was 6-0. MNU's
Dominic Harrington had a career day netting four of the teams' six goals in 70 minutes of play. This gives the striker fifteen goals on the year. Not bad for a newcomer not only to MNU but to the very tough Heart of America Conference.
It took a while for the Pioneers to get going in the game but once again their possession style dominated and it was obvious from early on that the Crusaders were in for a long afternoon. In the 21st minute, Harrington took a pass from
Javier Beltran and his left footed shot squeaked just inside the post. In the 30th minute
Matias Cabello supplied the pass and Harrington went around the goalkeeper to finish into the empty net. The score was 2-0 when the halftime break arrived.
MNU got off to a great start in the second half. Harrington finished off goals in the 46th and 48th minute respectively. His third goal of the afternoon was assisted by
Felipe Abreu. His fourth and final goal was assisted by
Clark Campbell. A nice slotted pass between the central defenders left Harrington with just the goalkeeper to beat. He did so and his four goal game falls just one shy of Trent Remmich's record setting five goal performance in 2011. Substitutions for MNU were made in the 70th minute and the final goals of the game came very late. In the 88th and 89th minutes the Hunjak brothers got on the board. First,
Tanner Hunjak came back from injury to bag his first goal since October 12th. A nice piece of individual dribbling left him alone with the goalkeeper. He finished from close range for the fifth goal of the match. Just one minute later, Tanner fed brother
Trae Hunjak with a pass that he banged inside the far post to finish the scoring.
For the game, MNU outshot Evangel 23-1, with shots on goal being 9-0. Two Crusader goalkeepers combined for 3 saves in the match. MNU's
Yann Passet and
Juan Pablo Riesco split the game time and were not credited with a save. Evangel falls to 5-12 (1-10) on the season. MNU is now 13-2-1 (10-1). Earlier in the afternoon the NAIA Top 25 poll was released and MNU moved up one spot to #8 with one game remaining in the regular season. The Pioneers will travel to Des Moines, Iowa to take on Grand View University on Saturday, October 29th at 4:00.
