Pioneers Fall at Grand View

The Pioneers fell behind early and dug a hole from which they could not recover in a 56-28 loss at #8 Grand View on Saturday. After each team punted on their opening drives, Grand View scored on their second drive with a 6-play 89-yard blitz to take a 7-0 lead. The Pioneers were poised to answer by getting into the red zone, but a fumble on a trick play was scooped by the Vikings and brought all the way to the opposite red zone. Grand View scored on the next play, and the Pioneers trailed by 14.

A Cristian Casillas field goal and an 8-play 58-yard drive gave MNU 10 points to get back in the game, and the teams traded touchdown strikes to make the score 28-20 in favor of Grand View at halftime.

The Vikings scored the first 21 points of the second half, and the Pioneers couldn't come back. MNU's lone touchdown of the half came from a Brian Marty to Devon Boyce 30-yard pass, and the final was 56-28.

Trey Cooper was 21-31 passing with 324 yards and a touchdown. Brian Marty was 9-15 for 166 yards and a touchdown. Gio Gonzalez caught 10 balls for 180 yards in MNU's first double-digit reception game since 2007 (James Perry). TJ Molway had 9 catches for 137 yards. And Devon Boyce hauled in 6 catches for 80 yards and a touchdown. On the other side of the ball, Dominic Swillum had 16 tackles and Armani Willie recorded 2 pass breakups.

MNU is 3-3. After a bye week, divisional play starts as the Pioneers head to Evangel (2-4) on Saturday the 15th at 1:30.
