Pioneers Recover from Slow Start to Beat Baker

The Pioneers scored just 6 points in the first quarter, but won each of the next three quarters to beat Baker 65-54 on Saturday. MNU ranks 13th in the country with more than 15 assists per game, but only recorded 1 in the first half as the offense struggled to find rhythm. A spark was created off the bench as Nathalie Felipe and Whitney Moia combined to shoot 8-12 to get MNU back in the game. Baker led 31-26 at halftime, but the Pioneers scored the first 6 points of the second half to take the lead. MNU won the third quarter 23-10 to take an 8-point lead to the fourth, and the Pioneers maintained the lead in the final period.

Kyleesha Weston led all scorers with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Nathalie Felipe shot 4-6 for 14 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. Megan Balcom added 10 points. Jasmine Webb hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds. And Whitney Moia had 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals in 16 minutes off the bench.
