Pioneers Slip to 2nd Place with Road Loss

Megan Balcom's career-high 28 points was not enough in an 85-76 road loss at CMU on Wednesday. In a battle of the Heart's top teams, the Eagles started the game with a 20-7 run from which MNU could not fully recover. At halftime the deficit had been trimmed to 7, and early in the 3rd quarter it was down to 4. But CMU scored the next 7 points to go back up by double digits. Balcom tried to keep the Pioneers close in the 4th, scoring 11 points in the period. But CMU kept scoring and won by 9. The turnover margin doomed the Pioneers, as they committed 25 while forcing 15.

Balcom recorded a career-high 28 points while shooting 9-16 from the field and 6-11 from beyond the arc. Tristin Wicks had 16 points and 13 rebounds. Jasmine Webb played all 40 minutes and shot 7-13 for 14 points and 8 rebounds. And Kyleesha Weston had 8 assists and 7 rebounds.

MNU is 14-4 (9-2 Heart). The next game is Saturday at home vs. Baker (14-4, 8-3) at 2:00. Fans are encouraged to wear red.
