Pioneers Use Second-Half Run to Win at CMU

Five Pioneers were in double figures as the balanced attack beat CMU 87-83 in Fayette on Wednesday. The first 30 minutes of the game were tight, as neither team took more than a 5-point lead. With 11 minutes remaining in the game, the score was tied for the 16th time. MNU tried to pull away with a 7-0 run, but CMU answered with an 11-4 run to record the 17th tie. With just under 8 minutes left, the Pioneers went on a deciding run. Nick Syrie and Justin Randall combined for 8 points and Jonas Page capped the 11-1 run with a 3 to put the Pioneers up 10. The Eagles clawed their way back but ran out of time as the Pioneers hit enough free throws to hold them off.

Jordan Whelan had a team-high 16 points and 6 rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench. Nick Syrie had 14 points, 10 assists, and 5 rebounds. Jonas Page added 14 points. Hudson Welty shot 6-7 for 13 points off the bench. And Justin Randall had 10 points and 5 blocks.

MNU is 13-6 (7-4 Heart). The next game is Saturday at home vs. Baker (9-9, 5-6) at 4:00. Fans are encouraged to wear red.
