Pioneers Hold Off Vikings

MNU is in 4th place in the Heart after an 86-78 victory over Missouri Valley on Saturday. After making just 1 three-pointer in 6 attempts on Thursday, the Pioneers were on fire from beyong the arc in the early going on Saturday. In the first half, Jonas Page and Cale Brubaker combined to shoot 6-9 from long range as MNU built a 12-point lead. The Vikings ended the half on a 7-2 run to head to the locker room trailing 40-34.

In the second half, MNU again built a double-digit lead before Valley cut the deficit to 4 with 7 minutes remaining. But the Pioneers responded with a 9-2 run to build another comfortable lead. MNU hit their free throws down the stretch and held off the Vikings for an 8-point win.

Jonas Page had 17 points with 5 threes and 2 steals. Gabriel Jordan shot 5-9 for 14 points and 6 rebounds. Nick Syrie filled the stat sheet with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 15 assists, and 3 steals. Jordan Whelan had 11 points off the bench. Cale Brubaker added 8 points in 7 minutes. Justin Randall had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks. And Justin Jamison had 8 points and 9 rebounds in his first start.

MNU is 12-6 (6-4 Heart). The next game is Wednesday at Central Methodist (10-8, 4-6) at 7:30.
