Box Score The Men's Soccer team lost their 2nd game of the year Saturday afternoon in Prescott, Arizona. The Master's College out of Santa Clarita, California defeated the Pioneers 2-1. This is the first time the two teams have met since the NCCAA National Final in 2004. MNU won that game to claim their 1st NCCAA National Title.
The Pioneers started the game well and had multiple chances to open the scoring in the first 20 minutes. They failed to capitalize on their chances and The Master's started to get a foot in the game. MNU continued to press for the opening goal but it was the Mustangs who drew first blood. A turnover in the midfield by the Pioneers left a gap in the middle of the field. Zach Klindworth unleashed a bomb to the upper corner that beat MNU's
Yann Passet. The score was 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, MNU played well but, once again, could not convert their chances. Kyle Cunningham, the Mustang goalkeeper had multiple saves and would not be beat. It took a penalty kick in the 52nd minute to tie the game.
Eddie Morales converted the spot kick after
Lucas Machado was taken down in the box. A rebound goal from a Passet save in the 73rd minute put the Pioneers behind once again. The Master's did a good job of closing out the game and they win 2-1.
For the game MNU outshot TMC 15-9, with SOG being 8-6. Cunningham had 7 saves. Passet was credited with 4 saves. The Master's goes to 3-1-1 on the year. MNU falls to 3-2. Next up is a game against the hosts on Monday, September 7
. The Pioneers will take on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 6pm (CST).
