Pioneers Cruise to Easy Win

The Men's Soccer team scored early and often in Wednesday afternoon's 6-0 conference victory against Avila University. The Pioneers needed a win after falling to Missouri Valley over the weekend. They did so in impressive form.
 
In just the 6th minute, Lucas Machado got MNU on the board. He took a long pass from Eduardo Heringer and played the ball over the onrushing Avila goalkeeper for his first goal. In the 23rd minute Machado had his brace. This time he finished after collecting a pass from Bryce McClanahan. Just before the break, the Pioneers added a third when Luis Cadena received a great pass from Matias Cabello and finished nicely with his left foot.
 
MNU started the second half well. Just 49 seconds in, Tanner Hunjak took a nice pass from Stephan Philippe and beat the keeper for his 1st of the match. In the 78th minute, substitutes Clark Campbell and Felipe Abreu combined for the goal. Off of a corner kick, Campbell received the ball and passed to Abreu who finished near post. In the 85th minute, Etienne Proult got the sixth and final goal. He earned a PK and stepped up to bury the penalty himself. 
 
For the game MNU outshot Avila 32-1, with SOG being 15-1. Avila's goalkeeper had 8 saves in the match. Yann Passet and Juan Pablo Riesco combined for the shutout. Riesco earned a save in the second half. Avila is now 2-9 (0-4) on the year. MNU is 7-3-1 (2-1). Next up is another home game for the Pioneers when Grand View University comes to town on Saturday at 3:30. Saturday's game is the Defeat All Cancer game. The MNU Soccer teams will be honoring Lake Lewis and his ongoing fight with brain cancer. Come out and watch a great NAIA soccer match and support a great cause.
