The Pioneers team lost their first conference game of the season Saturday night at the hands of Missouri Valley College by a score of 2-1. The Pioneers could not overcome a couple of mistakes and #5-ranked MVC capitalized on those chances.
The Vikings got on the board early in just the 7th minute. A turnover in the midfield was quickly played forward and MVC's Juan Carlos Heras finished past MNU goalkeeper
Juan Pablo Riesco. The Pioneers had some chances in the first half but they couldn't get the equalizer. In the second half, MNU continued to press for a goal & the Viking goalkeeper was forced into several saves. In the 71st minute, a turnover in the back allowed MVC to extend their lead. Heras took the chance for his second of the game. In the 78th minute, MNU pulled to within one when Lucas Macado played the ball across the box and
Etienne Proult was there to finish from close range. The Pioneers created several more chances in the last few minutes but MVC held on for the win.
For the game MNU outshot MVC 12-11, with SOG being 8-3. The Viking goalkeeper was credited with 6 saves. Riesco did not register a save in the loss. MVC is now 6-2 (2-1) on the year. MNU falls to 6-3-1 (1-1). Next up is a home game against Avila on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30.
