The MNU Men's team was back in action Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field. Coming off of a loss they were eager to take on Northwestern College out of Iowa. This is the first time the two teams have met in the history of each program and the Red Raiders were playing their first game of the year.
Â
The story of the game was really quite simple. MNU controlled possession and created the most opportunities but could not beat Northwestern goalkeeper, Matt Scott. The Red Raiders counter attacked and had several very good opportunities that MNU's
Juan Pablo Riesco saved. This scenario played itself out through both halves and regulation time ended 0-0. In the second overtime period, MNU finally finished one of their opportunities.
Alvaro Beltran played
Cameron Wallace into space and he collected the pass and rifled the ball into the roof of the net for the game winner.
Â
For the game MNU outshot NC 15-7 with SOG being 6-3. Scott was credited with 5 saves. Riesco had 3 saves. Northwestern falls to 0-1 on the young season. MNU is now 2-1. Next up is another home game as Columbia College comes to town on Wednesday, September 2 at 5:30.
