Win Streak Ends at 12 as MNU Splits at Benedictine

The Pioneer win streak reached 12 with a Game 1 victory, but came up short in Game 2 for a road split at Benedictine on Tuesday. MNU fell behind 2-0 in the first inning, but came right back with a 4-run second - highlighted by a Kaity Wills 2-run single - to take the lead. The Ravens scored 1 in the second and 1 in the fourth to tie the game, but MNU pulled away in the final 2 innings. With 2 outs and nobody on in the sixth, an error followed by a Macie Jones RBI triple gave the Pioneers the lead. Shelby Frans then knocked in Jones, and MNU led 6-4. The Pioneers scored 4 more in the top of the seventh, and held on to win 10-4. Taylor Pearcy earned her 14th victory, and Kaity Wills (2-4, 2 RBI), Macie Jones (3-4, 3 R, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI), and Shelby Frans (2-4, R, 2 RBI) led the offense.

In Game 2, the Pioneers couldn't manage a base hit until the sixth, and the Ravens built a 3-0 lead. Three straight singles loaded the bases for MNU in the sixth, and Hayley Gately's 2-run double cut the deficit to 1. The Ravens got a run back in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead, and held on for a 4-3 victory. Alexis Pacheco (1-3, R, HBP), Jess Peacock (1-2, R, Sac), Hayley Gately (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI), Macie Jones (1-2, R, BB), and Lorena Martinez (1-3) had MNU's 5 hits.

The Pioneers are 22-23 (10-6 HAAC). The next double header is Senior Day at home on Wednesday vs. Culver-Stockton (11-21, 3-11) at 2:00.
