Pioneers Fall at William Woods

The Pioneers took an early lead but couldn't hold it in a non conference 9-inning game at William Woods on Tuesday. In the top of the first, Santiago Romero drove in 2 runs with a 2-out single to give MNU a 3-0 lead. Nelson Santiago drilled his fourth homer of the year, a 3-run shot, to put the Pioneers up 6 in the top of the third. The Owls scored 1 in the third, rallied for 3 in the fifth, 1 in the sixth, and 2 in the seventh to tie the game. An error and an infield single brought home a run for William Woods in the bottom of the eighth, and MNU left a runner stranded at third in the ninth to come up a run short in an 8-7 final. Carlos Vargas (2-4, R, RBI), Nelson Santiago (2-4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI), and Santiago Romero (2-4, 2 RBI) had 2 hits apiece.

MNU is 27-18 (13-9 HAAC). The Pioneers close out the regular season with a 4-game series at Benedictine (13-28, 10-12) starting on Friday at 1:00.
