Pioneers Sweep Yellowjackets

Highlight | Hayley Gately's huge day keyed MNU's sweep of Graceland on Saturday. In the first inning of Game 1, the Yellowjackets scored 2 unearned runs, but the Pioneers scored twice on 3 hits to tie the game. Neither team scored through the seventh, and the game went to extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Jess Peacock doubled with 1 out and Gately drilled a 2-run homer one out later to win it. Taylor Pearcy struck out 5 and scatted 4 hits in 8 innings for her tenth victory, and Jess Peacock (3-4, 2 R, 2 2B, RBI, SB), Hayley Gately (1-4, R, HR, 2 RBI), and Madison McKay (1-3, RBI) drove in runs for the Pioneers.

In Game 2, each team recorded just 2 hits, but Megan Schwindler outdueled the Yellowjacket starter and struck out 8 for a complete game shutout. In the bottom of the third, MNU had runners on second and third with 2 outs when Gately's single scored a pair to give the Pioneers the only runs of the game. Schwindler struck out the side in the seventh to complete the shutout, and Kaity Wills (1-2, Sac) and Hayley Gately (1-3, 2 RBI) recorded MNU's 2 hits.

The Pioneers are 17-22 (5-5 HAAC). The next double header is Tuesday at Evangel (13-10, 6-4) at 1:00.
