Pioneers Sweep Crusaders

The win streak is at 9 after a double header sweep at Evangel on Tuesday. In Game 1, the Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Alexis Pacheco led off with a single and Jess Peacock followed with a double. Hayley Gately drove in a run with a single and a wild pitch brought in another. Macie Jones and Madison McKay followed with base hits, and an error brought home the fourth run. Starting pitcher Taylor Pearcy struck out 7 and allowed a run in the fifth, but neither team scored again and the Pioneers held on for a 4-1 victory. Megan Schwindler earned a save with 3 outs in the seventh, and Jess Peacock (2-3, R, 2B, HBP) reached base 3 times.

In Game 2, both teams scored single runs in the first and fourth, but Evangel took the lead in the bottom of the fifth after a triple and a wild pitch. In the top of the sixth, Macie Jones tied it with a solo homer, and the game went into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, Kaity Wills bunted for a single with out one, and back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Macie Jones came through again with a 2-run single, and MNU led 5-3. A Felisha Vogelaar single and a Shelby Frans walk make it 6-3, and a wild pitch brought home the fourth run of the inning for a 7-3 lead. Evangel didn't score in the bottom of the inning, and MNU completed the sweep. Taylor Pearcy picked up win number 12 in relief, and Hayley Gately (2-3, 2 R, BB), Macie Jones (2-3, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI, BB), and Felisha Vogelaar (2-3, Sac) had 2 hits apiece.

MNU is 19-22 (7-5 HAAC). The next double header is Friday at home vs. University of Dallas at 5:00.
