The Pioneers scored 23 runs in a sweep of Ottawa and St. Gregory's on Friday. The games were played on Johnson County Community College's field. Against Ottawa,
Clayton Brandt led off the bottom of the first with a triple and scored on a
Trent Sullivan sacrifice fly, and
Seth Lieser drove in another run with 2 outs to give MNU an early 2-0 lead. MNU scored single runs in the third and fourth, but Ottawa rallied for 4 in the top of the fifth to tie the game. The Pioneers responded in the top of the fifth with a 3-run 2-out rally, and scored 3 more in the sixth to ice it. Ottawa picked up 2 in the seventh, but
Zach Stinnett finished the game and preserved the 10-7 victory.
Carlos Vargas struck out 6 in 5.1 innings for the victory, Stinnett picked up a save, and Brandt (2-3, R, 3B, 2 RBI, BB, SB),
Jordan Eckley (2-4, 2 R, 3B), Vargas (3-4, R, RBI),
Jordan McCloud (3 R, 3 SB),Â
Kelvin Perez (2-3, R, 2B, RBI, BB), and
Jordan Jones (1-2, 2B, 2 HBP) led the offense.
In Game 2, the Pioneers jumped on St. Gregory's with 6 runs in the second (highlighted by a
Clayton Brandt bases-clearing triple) and 7 more in the third (highlighted by a
Jordan Jones 2-run bomb to left) to take a huge lead.
Brett Ebers scattered 7 hits and struck out 3 for a complete game shutout. And Brandt (3-4, 2 R, 3B, 3 RBI),
Trent Sullivan (2-4, 2 R, 3B, SB),
Carlos Vargas (2-4, 2 R, 2B, 3 RBI),
Seth Lieser (1-2, R, 3B, 2 RBI, BB),
Kelvin Perez (2-3, R), and

MNU is 7-5. The Pioneers play Ottawa at 10am and St. Gregory's at 3pm tomorrow at MNU's home field. Ottawa and St. Gregory's will play a game in between.
