Pioneers Split With Bethany

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Two dramatic games resulted in a double header split against Bethany on Friday. In Game 1, Bethany took a 2-run lead on a homer in the top of the second, but MNU tied it in the third with RBIs from Alexis Pacheco and Hayley Gately. Ana Tavarez gave MNU a 3-2 lead in the fourth with an RBI double, and Megan Schwindler pitched the final 3 innings to earn a save for Taylor Pearcy's 5th victory. Alexis Pacheco (1-3, R, 2B, RBI), Hayley Gately (3-3, RBI), and Ana Tavarez (1-2, R, 2B, RBI, BB) led the offense.

In Game 2, the Pioneers got in the board in the third thanks to RBIs from Kaity Wills and Ana Tavarez, but Bethany tied it in the top of the fourth with a 2-run homer. Bethany scored twice in the sixth to take the lead, but the Pioneers came back in the bottom of the inning. MNU trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth when Kaity Wills drilled a 3-run homer with 2 outs to give MNU a 2-run lead. Bethany rallied for 4 in the top of the seventh, however, and the Pioneers fell 8-6. Hayley Gately (2-4, 2 R, Sac), Madison McKay (2-4, 2 R, 2B), Kaity Wills (3-4, R, HR, 4 RBI), and Ana Tavarez (2-4, RBI) had multi-hit games.

MNU is 8-15. The next game is a double header at OGSA* on Saturday vs. Ottawa (10-11) at 2:00.
