Pioneers Drop 2 in Oklahoma

The Pioneers faced Mount Mercy and host Oklahoma City and came away with 2 losses on Friday. Against Mount Mercy, the Mustangs manufactured a run in the first, and scored an unearned run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. After Clayton Brandt led off the game with a single, the Mustang pitcher retired the next 18 straight and held a 2-run lead into the seventh. Trent Sullivan led off the seventh with a double, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a Seth Lieser groundout to cut the deficit in half. But a flyout ended the game and Mount Mercy won 2-1. Santiago Romero struck out 3 in 5 innings in the loss. And Brandt (1-3) and Sullivan (1-2, R, 2B, Sac) had MNU's 2 hits.

Against #16 Oklahoma City, the game was scoreless until the Stars put up 3 runs in the third inning. MNU got one back in the fourth when Clayton Brandt singled, stole second, and scored on an error. But the Pioneers couldn't get anymore and OKCU scored 3 more to win 6-1. Brandt (1-3, R, SB) and Carlos Vargas (2-3) led the offense.

MNU is 3-3. Two more neutral-site games are scheduled for tomorrow. Mount Mercy at 12:30 followed by #7 Tabor at 3:00.
