Whelan Ties Career High in Road Loss

The #13 Pioneers hung with #6 William Penn for 30 minutes, but the Statesmen dominated the final 10 in MNU's 92-76 road loss on Saturday. MNU came out strong and built a 10-point lead with 8 minutes left in the first half, but WPU came back to tie it just 3 minutes later. The Pioneers again built a nice lead late in the period, but a free throw and back-to-back threes from William Penn got them within 1 heading to the locker room.

The second half was tight until the 11-minute mark. MNU trailed by just 1 point, but the Statesmen went on a 23-6 run over the next 8 minutes to blow the game open. WPU won 92-76.

Jordan Whelan shot 10-15 to tie his career high of 25 points in 27 minutes off the bench. Nick Syrie had 12 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Cale Brubaker nailed 3 threes and a pair of free throws for 11 points. Justin Randall added 10 points and 9 rebounds. And Jonas Page had 10 points.

MNU is 8-3 (3-2 Heart). The next game is Friday at Mid-America Christian (8-3) at 7:00. MNU beat then-#10 MACU 105-89 in the season opener.
