Tourney Champs!

#19 MNU captured its 4th conference tournament title in 5 years with a sweep of #16 Evangel on Saturday. MNU dominated the first two sets, winning both 25-16 to take a 2-0 lead.

The third set was tight throughout, with neither team leading by more than 3 until MNU took a 23-19 lead. Evangel battled back, however, and tied the set at 24. The Crusaders fought off 5 Championship Points as the set wore on, and finally took a 28-27 lead to put the Pioneers on the defensive. MNU took a time out and won the next 2 points, but Evangel thwarted the Pioneers one more time, tying the set at 29. MNU finally put Evangel away by winning the next 2 points to complete the sweep and claim the title.

Sofija Berezovska had 14 kills and 10 digs. Gisele Silva also recorded a double double with 11 kills and 10 digs to go along with 3 aces. Lauma Knupke added 11 kills and 4 blocks. Cailyn Bessmer had 6 blocks. Tashley Snyder (14) and Michaela Kennedy (11) had double digit digs. And Rachel Kater had 44 assists and 7 digs.

MNU is 25-9. The next match is the Opening Round of Nationals which will be played at home on Saturday at a time and versus an opponent to be determined.
