Pioneers Dominate Uphaus Tourney

The Pioneers won the Jeff Uphaus Memorial Tournament with a 102-62 victory over Sterling on Friday. With just under 5 minutes left in the first half, MNU led by 4. But MNU went on an 18-2 run capped by a David Nelson deep 3 at the buzzer to close the period and take a 20-point lead to the locker room.

It took 3 minutes for either team to score in the second half, but MNU broke through first and started with an 11-1 run to blow the game open. The 30-point lead was maintained throughout, and MNU claimed the tournament.

Jonas Page led 7 Pioneers in double figures with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Justin Randall had 11 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 steals. Nick Syrie had 11 points and 10 assists. And Hudson Welty, Gabriel Jordan, Jordan Whelan, and Jonathan Green had 10 points apiece. Green added 9 rebounds as well.

MNU is 4-1. The next game starts Heart play on Monday at home vs. Culver-Stockton (2-2) at 7:30.
