Taylor Sets Record in Rout of Avila

Javon Taylor set an MNU record while recording the longest possible touchdown run in MNU's 44-21 victory over Avila on Saturday. After Cristian Casillas gave the Pioneers a 3-0 lead with 45-yard field goal, Demitrious Finney intercepted a pass at the 1 on Avila's ensuing drive. Taylor took the first handoff, broke through the line, and sprinted past the secondary for a 99-yard touchdown.

Near the end of the first quarter, Jason Keobounheung picked off another Avila pass and MNU went on an 11-play 68-yard touchdown drive to take a 17-0 lead. Jakob Jordan's 5-yard pass to Dylan Meyers capped the drive.

Keobounheung picked off his second pass of the half with 35 seconds to go, and Casillas knocked home a short field goal to send MNU to the locker room with a 20-0 lead.

MNU forced a turnover to open the second half, and Javon Taylor took the first play 27 yards for his second touchdown. The Pioneers extended the lead with a 41-yard Donald Garcia touchdown run to go up 34-0 late in the third quarter, and MNU cruised in the fourth for a 44-21 victory.

Javon Taylor led 3 running backs over 100 yards with 204 yards and 2 touchdowns, including the recording setting play. Drake Tofi had 138 yards on the ground with a touchdown. And Donald Garcia carried 11 times for 107 yards and a touchdown. MNU rushed for 506 yards.

Jakob Jordan was 9-14 through the air for 131 yards and a touchdown. And Bo Miller had 7 catches for 92 yards.

On the defensive side, Cy Pana had 9 tackles including a sack and a forced fumble. Jason Keobounheung had 2 picks and 31 yards returning. And Demitrious Finney had an 8-yard sack and an interception.

MNU is 4-5 (2-1 Heart South). The next game is Saturday at Central Methodist (3-6, 1-2) at 1:00. CMU handed MNU its only regular season loss last season.
